Regional Labour Affairs
The Division of Regional Labor Affairs serves within administrative department of the Ministry of Labor, and is responsible to supervise, monitor, and coordinate all labor related activities in the (15) leeward counties, including rural Montserrado. This division supervises and monitors Labor Commissioners, Labor Inspectors, and Clerk Typist in the leeward counties. The Division is under the mandate to ensure Industrial Harmony across the (15) Counties including Rural Montserrado. The division has one office in each of County Service Center where all Labor matters are being heard.
MISSION AND SCOPE OF WORK
The mission of the Division of Regional Affairs is to ensure industrial harmony across the (15) counties, including rural Montserrado County. The division obligated to carry out the following
- To supervise, private sector-led growth by implementing the access of the Decent Work Act and Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).
- To monitor intra-regional activities in Liberia, thus strengthening regional integration and enhancing the prospects for sustainable employment in the regions, and to coordinate all Labor Activities in leeward counties including, rural Montserrado.
RESPONSIBILITY
- Conduct regular county tour to assess of staff performance and to conduct administrative audit.
- Conduct routine and quarterly verification inspections at work places.
- Conduct health and safety inspections to ensure that the requisite safety materials are provided to employees across the country.
- Ensure the enforcement of the ECOWAS Bio-Metric Exercises and the printing of cards at the Counties Service Centers across the country.
- Engage both management and employees through social dialogue to settle labor dispute and to avoid strike actions.
- The adjudication of labor cases through our local offices.
- Conduct capacity building workshop for staff within the division.
REPORTING AND PRIORITY AREAS
The Division of Regional Labour Affairs is headed by an Assistant Minister, who serves as the policy marker through presidential appointment. The division report directly to the Deputy Minister for Administration who has oversight responsibility on the functions and activities of the division. The priorities of the division are as follows:
- To sensitize potential workers and managers, unionized and non-unionized, about their respective rights and obligations in the leeward counties;
- To bring about an awareness of the Ministry of Labour– its role and functions;
- To inform the counties about the role, function and services that the Regional Labour office offers; and
- To provide better and regular training for staff; and
- To conduct the above on an ongoing basis.
